Apps “Layer3” and “Layer3 Agent” · Last updated: October 2026

The apps contain no advertising, no analytics and no tracking. I as the developer receive no data from the apps. There is no server of mine the apps talk to.

Data on your device

Scan history, device list, settings, SNMP community and pairing codes are stored only on your device (codes in the keychain). There is no iCloud sync.

Checks within your network

Ping, sweep, path MTU, port check and SNMP send packets to the addresses you enter or that belong to your network. For this the app needs the local network permission the system asks for the first time. No credentials are transmitted; the SNMP community is sent unencrypted to the router you chose (SNMPv2c).

Requests to the internet

Only when you use DNS, whois or “My network” are requests sent to the respective resolvers (e.g. the system’s, Cloudflare, Google, Quad9), to public whois servers, or to OpenDNS to determine your public IP address. These services technically see your IP address and the queried name.

Layer3 Agent

The agent on the Mac or Windows PC only accepts connections from devices paired with the code (TLS-PSK) and performs nothing but traceroute and reading the ARP table for them. It stores no requests and sends nothing to the internet except the traceroute packets to the requested target.

If you email me, I use your address and message only to answer your request.
