App “Textsmith” · Last updated: October 2026

The app contains no advertising, no analytics and no tracking. As the developer I receive no data from the app. The app does not connect to the internet, and there is no server of mine that it communicates with.

Your files

Textsmith only opens, reads and writes files and folders you choose yourself – through the open or save dialog, by dropping them on the app icon, with “Open With” or as a folder in the sidebar. Find in Files only searches the folder you specify. The contents of your files never leave your Mac.

Data on your Mac

So that open tabs are back after a restart, Textsmith stores in its own app folder on your Mac the list of open tabs (file paths, encoding, line ending, language, cursor position), backup copies of changed or untitled tabs, and bookmarks that let macOS allow the app to reopen the most recently opened files and the sidebar folder. A tab’s backup copy is deleted as soon as you save or close it. Settings such as zoom, word wrap and appearance are also stored only on your Mac. Nothing is synced via iCloud.

If you email me, I use your address and message only to answer your request.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing and objection, and the right to lodge a complaint with the Austrian Data Protection Authority (dsb.gv.at). Backup copies disappear as soon as you save or close the tabs. All of the app’s data (session, backup copies, settings) is in the folder ~/Library/Containers/at.bumberger.textsmith; after deleting the app you can delete this folder too. Your text files are not affected.
